Remanufacturing of Engine Blocks by PTWA Thermal Spraying
Service-exposed engine blocks are damaged due to wear of piston rings. Depending on the engine architecture engine blocks can be remanufactured by using oversize pistons or by re-linering. However, modern engines sometimes do not permitt these solutions due to the remaining bore bridge dimensions.
Therefore, a new PTWA spray repair process using nanocrystalline spray material as well as conventional 0.8% C-Steel is used for remanufacturing. Initial results for cast iron blocks will be presented.
