Lubricant Effects on Hydrocarbon Emissions from a Spark Ignition Engine
Fuel absorption/desorption process in the cylinder lubricating oil film is known to be one of the main sources of unburned hydrocarbon emissions. Several commercial lubricants have been tested to verify their influence on exhaust hydrocarbons. The tests were performed a production gasoline fuelled spark ignition engine mounted in a dynamometer bench. The results demonstrate that lubricant characteristics significantly affect hydrocarbons exhaust concentration.
