Continuous Digital Processing

Mr. Frank Rautenstrauch, Volkswagen AG, Germany

The objective is continuous virtual support of the development process by connecting product with process (seamless transition from virtual production right through to the digital factory stage). The Virtual Tryout (VTO) currently performed in building a prototype for the preparation and provision of the hardware structure leads to a reduction in build time by avoiding delays and errors in production.

The outcome of this process should be transferred from the initial phase (concept) to SOP to avoid information losses and to be able to have an influence on the product as soon as possible by being involved in production.

Significant elements of this concept are the performance of Virtual Tryouts continuously throughout the process up to the production stage, the linking of product data with technical information and the provision of simulations from the development phase for the Digital Factory, taking into consideration ergonomic aspects, production time and buildings and plant.

Furthermore, the outcomes of the virtual support can be further used in the fields of customer service, recycling and coaching at an early stage.
