Comparison of Knock and HCCI Combustion Using Optical Analysis

Dr. Teruyuki Itoh, Nissan Research Center, Japan
Mr. Akihiko Kakuho, Nissan Research Center, Japan

Knock and HCCI is similar combustion phenomenon through the auto-ignition of the mixture characteristics. In this paper, description of the difference between them had been made using the optical spectroscopy, temperature field by LIF, for example. Spectroscopy had been made by means of Makstov optics. This information lead us to the temperature role on the reaction start. Namely the temperature value just before the start of auto-ignition had been made clear. This temperature indicates the universal value so-called LTHR and its value is about 720 degree. This value is very important for the auto-ignition of the gasoline mixture made by gasoline fuel.
